The All-Star Chess Jumpstart

Chess Lessons for Kids Ages 3-5

Chess can be taught to kids as young as three through fun stories and mini games, though it usually takes more time and guidance than it does with older beginners. In This total beginner course for ages 3-5, we will help your child grasp the fundamental chess concepts with exciting games they can learn quickly. The more your child improves, the more challenging the mini games will become, slowly building up their knowledge base.

Throughout this process they will learn how the pieces move, also building an intuitive foundation for how best to move them, along with what a legal move is, and lastly some basic checkmates. Once they have exhibited a good understanding of how the pieces move across the chess board, we will begin playing full assisted chess games! This will sharpen their growing knowledge of the game even more. In assisted games, I will operate the pieces, but give total control of the decision making process to the student. they will choose which piece to move and where to move it, without interruption from me. This allows them to start seeing the board and how the pieces on both sides interact.

Chess is hard. There are lots of pieces, and even more squares. It can be difficult to learn all at once. So All-Star Chess doesn't teach it all at once. Rather, we ease students into a fuller understanding by incrementally introducing fundamental concepts through chess based mini-games. Additionally, these games also develop good habits while simplifying chess into more digestible segments.
